Guidance
This training will ideally be delivered at the start of the Intermediate level to build an understanding of all 6 equality strands and raise awareness of the benefits of wider monitoring and positive action

The strand specific element of this Website is a helpful resource when developing training.

Requirement
Develop and deliver positive action schemes to increase the diversity of staff and Board .
Essential evidence Added value evidence
Positive action schemes with evidence of:
  • scheme or programme specification, aims and details
  • monitoring and review paper or project evaluations
  • promotional and communications activity appropriate for the purpose of increasing uptake and visibility of the scheme or programme
Guidance
Mentoring programmes, shadowing, job rotation/wider experience, co-option and secondments will all serve to build the confidence and ability of individuals from priority groups to do the job and gain promotion. Action with a focus on under-represented groups is justified if under-representation has been evidenced.

Guidance on positive action schemes will also be available from the relevant Equality Organisations, including the EHRC.

Examples of relevant programmes include(see toolkit resources below):
The Disability 2 ticks scheme
UK Sport Women and Leadership Development Programme
Stonewall Diversity Champions Programme

Requirement
Compare current audit data with those gathered at Foundation and Preliminary levels.
Essential evidence Added value evidence
Current data demonstrating an increase in diversity since Foundation and Preliminary level audits were undertaken for gender, disability, ethnicity and age. Where sexual orientation and religion / belief data has been collected previously, compare this data against previous audits conducted at the Foundation and Preliminary levels.

Requirement
Monitor sexual orientation and religion / belief for Board, staff and key volunteers.
Essential evidence Added value evidence
Equality profile for the Board, staff and key volunteers to be conducted against sexual orientation and religion / belief as well as the other four strands.
Guidance
If organisations are able to demonstrate that the number of staff/volunteers involved is too small to ensure anonymity can be maintained, then reporting of data within these two strands is not required
