NHS Stoke-on-Trent have commissioned VAGA to undertake a feasibility study for community outdoor gyms, trim trails, food growing in parks and allotments in Stoke-on-Trent. This briefing note outlines our proposals for undertaking this work. The aims of the project are to:
  1. Assess whether outdoor gyms, trim trails and other outdoor physical activity solutions can be used in parks, green-spaces and allotments to attract more adults to be more physically active and to eat more healthily.
  2. Develop and design interactive, practical and sustainable cost effective solutions, to increase access and opportunity for people who are sedentary to be more active.
  3. Provide an evidence base and recommendations for optimising the use of functional green-spaces, parks and allotments across the Stoke-on-Trent.
The work will be undertaken in three phases:
  • Initial Research (January 2010)
  • Consultation (January – March 2010)
  • Feasibility Report (April – May 2010)
