Introduction
NHS Stoke-on-Trent have commissioned VAGA to undertake a feasibility study for community outdoor gyms, trim trails, food growing in parks and allotments in Stoke-on-Trent. This briefing note outlines our proposals for undertaking this work.
The aims of the project are to:
- Assess whether outdoor gyms, trim trails and other outdoor physical activity solutions can be used in parks, green-spaces and allotments to attract more adults to be more physically active and to eat more healthily.
- Develop and design interactive, practical and sustainable cost effective solutions, to increase access and opportunity for people who are sedentary to be more active.
- Provide an evidence base and recommendations for optimising the use of functional green-spaces, parks and allotments across the Stoke-on-Trent.

The work will be undertaken in three phases:
- Initial Research (January 2010)
